小塚桃恵／截金・彩色師

京都伝統工芸大学校 木彫刻科卒。

授業の一環で受けた木彫刻彩色に魅了され、彩色の道に進むことを決意。

在学中は日本画を学び、卒業後は仏像制作・修復を行う京都の工房へ彩色職人として弟子入り。独学で截金を学び、彩色截金師として経験を積んだのちに独立。その後仏師である夫とともに小塚工房を立ち上げ、仏像や文化財の修復、また彩色・截金を手がける一方で伝統技法を用いたアート作品や截金アクセサリーなどを制作をしている。

Mom Kozuka

I graduated from the Wood Carving Department at Kyoto Traditional Crafts College.

During my studies, I became fascinated by wood sculpture painting, which inspired me to pursue a career in coloring.

While in school, I also studied Japanese painting, and after graduation, I apprenticed as a polychromist at a Kyoto workshop specializing in Buddhist statue creation and restoration. I taught myself kirikane （gold leaf work), gained experience as both a polychromist and kirikane artisan, and later established my own practice.Later, together with my husband, a Buddhist sculptor, I established Kozuka Workshop, where I work on the restoration of Buddhist statues and cultural properties, as well as coloring and Kirikane. At the same time, I create art pieces and Kirikane accessories using traditional techniques.

(Kirikane is a decorative technique in which extremely thin pieces of metal foil, usually gold or platinum, are cut and applied to wood or another substrate (base object) to form minute and intricate patterns.Originally, kirikane was principally used to decorate the robes and armor of Buddhist statuary. )
